How to Rediscover Yourself After Putting Others First

Self-reflect the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

As the year comes to an end, we naturally begin turning inward. December gives us a rare gift—the chance to pause, reflect, and reconnect with ourselves after months of tending to everyone else’s needs. This is the perfect time to take out your journal and ask the questions that bring you back home to you.

Start with gentle, grounding reflections:

  • What am I most proud of this year?

  • What part of the year was I most motivated?

  • When did I need the most rest?

  • What feelings came up for me this year?

  • What is something I will stop doing in the New Year?

  • What do I want more of this year?

As you write, notice what surfaces. Did anything surprise you? Did any answers feel tender, exciting, or long overdue? These are signs that parts of you are ready to return—parts that might have been quiet or forgotten while you were busy caring for others.

The end of the year is not just a closing; it’s an opening. Make time to enjoy your family, but also make time for yourself. Allow your journal to hold your desires, your truth, your next steps.

There were many gifts that came your way this year. Take a moment to name them, honour them, and let them guide the version of you that’s ready to re-emerge.
